02 / YOUR BMI
BMI relates weight to height. It does not directly measure body fat, muscle, fitness or health.
Read the CDC guidance ↗What the number means.
We calculate BMI as weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. Adult categories use the unrounded result: below 18.5, 18.5 to below 25, 25 to below 30, and 30 or above. The display rounds to one decimal, so a value near a boundary can look like the next category.
Use adult BMI for people aged 20 or older. It is not a pregnancy assessment or a substitute for a clinical evaluation, and may be particularly misleading when muscle mass or body proportions differ from the populations behind it.
